There has been a whole host of legendary Air Jordan 1 collaborations over the years – from Virgil Abloh’s Off-White to Melody Ehsani – but none have made a statement quite like the Jordan 1 Retro High x Comme Des Garcons Black. Originally unveiled on CDG’s AW19 catwalk, this head-turning sneaker nods to the original AJ1 with its branding and shape, but mixes things up with the Japanese brand’s signature quirk. The upper is made from premium leather with tonal stitching, with Swoosh branding and Air cushioning offering a familiar feel. Polished silver-tone studs frame the laces, while a belt-like buckle wraps around the ankle giving a punk’ vibe. Finally, the exaggerated tongue plays host to both Michael Jordan’s Jumpman logo and Rei Kawakubo’s CDG branding, proving that with this collab, both brands are sharing the stage.
